Running 12 Marathons to see each community

Middletown is one town, but it is really a collection of about a dozen distinct communities, each with its own schools, neighborhoods, history, and identity. I grew up here, so these communities aren’t unfamiliar to me. My childhood friends were scattered across town, and many of these neighborhoods hold memories from different stages of my life. As part of my run for the Middletown Board of Education, I decided I wanted to experience each of these communities again and learn more about them, the best way I know how: on foot.

So, I’m running a full 26.2-mile marathon through each one, visiting each school, park, post office, firehouse… and misc. landmarks, local businesses, and the side streets that make each community unique.

Along the way, I’m learning some new things, while also revisiting some places that bring back old memories. These runs have become equal parts educational and sentimental. Over the coming weeks, I’ll share a short story from each community marathon and what I experienced, remembered, and learned along the way.

I have roughly 314 miles planned for the “Community Marathons,” but… I'll likely do much more... I'll probably run over 500 miles through Middletown, in total, before the election.
